portrait series: near mint*
A film portrait series about the Swiss vinyl scene
The ethnographic portrait series called „near mint“ is dedicated to the Swiss vinyl scene and emphasises the values that unite this micro-community beyond music: Mindfulness, community and conscious listening.
In the digitalised and fast-paced present, there is a growing longing for moments of inner peace – even in nightlife. Places like listening bars, which originated in Japan, fulfil this desire. Here, the vinyl record becomes a symbol of serenity: unwrap the record, put it on, clean it, put on the needle, lean back and listen.
The series is presented by 45rpm.ch magazine, a platform for the DJ and vinyl scene. Additional insights behind the scenes and into the vinyl collections of those portrayed are provided by @nearmint.stories on Instagram.
„near mint“ is not only intended to capture what already exists, but also to create something new: in the future, „near mint“ events will take place that tie in with the portraits.
